Beliau meninggal setelah postingan terakhir sebagai pesan terakhirnya yang menceritakan tentang nyanyian “a happy song” dalam perawatan di rumahnya.Olive Riley meninggal dalam damai pada 12 Juli 2008, ribuan blogger Internet dan sanak sodaranya menjadi berkabung atas kematiannya.Riley telah memposting lebih dari 70 pemikiranya pada blognya dari “Woy Woy on the east coast” sejak Februari tahun lalu, beliau membagikan pemikirannya dalam hidup yang modern dan pengalaman-pengalaman kehidupan abad 20.Riley dilahirkan di kota pedalaman yang bernama Broken Hill pada tanggan 20 Oktober 1899, ia telah mengalami kehidupan dalam dua perang dunia dan mempunyai tiga anak. Ia melakukan berbagai pekerjaan diantaranya adalah juru masak peternakan dan pelayan di kedai minum.Didalam posting terakhirnya pada 26 Juni 2008, dia menulis: “Saya tidak bisa percaya saya berada disini di dalam rawatan di rumahnya lebih dari satu minggu”“Bagaimana hari-hari telah berlalu, bahkan walaupun saya telah berada di tempat tidur pada sebagian besar waktuku, saya masih merasakan lemah, sakit batuk saya tidak sembuh-sembuh”, katanya.“Penny, merupakan teman tidurku yang selalu menemaniku, selain itu saya ditemani oleh putri saya yang mempunyai pekerjaan sebagai penyanyi professional. Dia dan saya menyanyikan “a hapy song”, seperti saya lakukan setiap hari, dan beberapa saat kemudian perawat turut bergabung dalam nyanyian yang panjang.
