10 Kiat Personal Branding Lewat Blogging

Hari Jumat, 21 Nopember 2008 yang lalu, saya diundang PT Excelcomindo Pratama alias XL untuk mengisi materi pada seri Knowledge Explore yang sudah rutin diadakan oleh XL. Tema yang dipilih oleh XL agak bombastis, Blogging: Cara Pintar Menjadi Pakar. Tapi intinya, saya menguraikan bagaimana blogging alias kegiatan ngeblog dapat digunakan untuk mendukung karir dan pekerjaan, khususnya dalam aspek personal branding.
Diskusi saya buka dengan sajian tentang fenomena penting dunia IT yang sering luput kita perhatikan, diantaranya adalah:
Internet dengan WWW sebagai garda depannya, membuat dunia ini semakin datar. Pendapat ini disampaikan oleh Thomas L. Friedman dalam buku best seller-nya The World is Flat. Perlu dicatat bahwa jumlah pengguna Internet dunia menembus ke angka 1,3 miliar. Menurut InternetWorldStats.Com, Indonesia mencatatkan diri pada urutan no 14 dunia, mengalahkan spanyol dan beberapa negara maju lainnya secara jumlah pengguna Internet. Isu bahwa jumlah pengguna Internet di Indonesia adalah kecil dan tidak perlu dipikirkan adalah konspirasi tingkat tinggi untuk menjauhkan masyarakat dari kekuatan dan magic bernama Internet.
Mesin pencari adalah kultur baru pencarian pada masyarakat dunia ini. Era yellow pages, papan pengumuman, informasi di surat kabar dan bahkan nomor ajaib 108, sudah semakin tergerus oleh Internet. Pencarian di Internet melebar ke arah pencarian pekerjaan, nara sumber, pembicara, dosen, travel agent , toko, gedung perkantoran, alamat dan no telepon seseorang, dsb. Kultur inilah yang saya gunakan dalam ketika memutuskan mencoba jalur personal branding lewat blogging supaya bisa mendukung karir dan pekerjaan saya. Jalan inilah yang juga dibidik oleh Boeing dan Sun Microsystem, yang mencoba menggunakan model corporate blogging, dengan meminta Randy Baseler dan Jonathan untuk memimpin blogging culture di perusahaan mereka.
Datarnya dunia membuat perubahan bisa dilakukan oleh individu atau kelompok kecil, di manapun berada. Dunia bergeser dan terjadi perubahan trend para pelopor dan perubah (agent of change), yang bukan dari negara besar, bukan dari perusahaan besar dan juga bukan dari universitas besar. Masalah ini dibahas tuntas oleh Friedman melalui teori versi globalisasi yang mulai 1990 masuk ke versi tiga. Majalah Time, meskipun dengan redaksi yang berbeda, juga membahas isu ini lewat kontroversi Time’s Person of the Year tahun 2006, yang memilih You (Anda). Ya, anda yang melakukan knowledge sharing di Internet, konsumer dan produser user generated content. Produk dan kreatifitas di dunia maya yang membuat perubahan tidak hanya di dunia maya sendiri, bahkan di dunia nyata, sering saya sebut dengan kreatifitas maya.
Trend SDM dunia mengarah ke versatilist, yaitu spesialis yang memiliki kemampuan menjelaskan produk dan keunggulan yang dimiliki kepada orang lain dengan baik. Para spesialis yang versatilist adalah orang yang bisa menyeimbangkan kemampuan verbal dan tulis, dan juga menggabungkan keunggulan defacto dan dejure. Blogging adalah exercise yang baik dalam membentuk keunggulan tulis, dan juga titik awal menemukan keunggulan defacto bagi yang serius menjalaninya.
Fenomena diatas semakin meyakinkan kita bahwa blogging dan mengembangkan kreatifitas maya adalah media dan jalan menuju perubahan. Blogging adalah alat untuk sharing, branding, business dan marketing yang murah, efektif dan efisien.
Lewat blog-lah saya sebarkan seluruh CV dan portfolio saya. Dan lewat tulisan di bloglah, saya memainkan persepsi orang lain supaya yakin bahwa saya mampu dan pantas mengerjakan suatu pekerjaan. Saya bahkan tidak pernah melamar pekerjaan, melamar menjadi dosen pada suatu universitas, menjadi nara sumber, menjadi pengisi seminar atau bahkan memburu tender secara agresif. Intinya, saya tidak pernah dan tidak ingin secara kasar dan agresif memburu karir, termasuk pekerjaan, jabatan, harta, dan tahta. Saya cukup melakukan personal branding lewat blog dan membuat kreatifitas maya seperti IlmuKomputer.Com. Dan saya biarkan semua itu memburu saya … Wahai para pedjoeangku, inilah jalan cinta para legenda itu .. ehm ehm
Beberapa kiat yang saya lakukan selama ini dalam aktifitas ngeblog alias blogging, khususnya berhubungan dengan personal branding adalah sebagai berikut:
Sediakan Profile, Portfolio dan CV Lengkap. Informasi lengkap harus kita berikan lewat blog kita sehingga orang semakin mudah menemukan kita. Yang penting kita sajikan adalah profile lengkap, penghargaan yang kita terima, portfolio dan pengalaman kerja kita, sertifikasi yang kita miliki, daftar publikasi paper, dan cara mengkontak kita (alamat, telepon, email, ym, dsb). Yakinlah bahwa asal positioning yang kita bentuk positif, dan semua tulisan kita sajikan dengan ikhlash untuk kebaikan masyarakat, Insya Allah tidak akan ada yang menyalahgunakan data kita untuk melakukan kejahatan.
Fokuskan Tema Tulisan ke Core Competency yang Kita Miliki. Putuskan dan pilih bidang garapan alias core competency yang kita inginkan dalam karir. Fokuskan tema tulisan hanya di sekitar core competency kita tersebut. Kalau yang kita bidik ada banyak, buat dalam beberapa kategori yang mempermudah pembaca memahami positioning kita. Positioning kita biasanya kita tulis dan subtitle pada blog. Contohnya, saya menggunakan kalimat: Learning, Researching, Entrepreneuring, Teaching, Motivating and Inspiring People. Sedangkan fokus core competency yang saya kejar adalah bidang: Software Engineering, eLearning, Entrepreneurship, Kemahasiswaan, Research Methodology, Open Movement dan Knowledge Management. Meskipun kelihatan banyak, tapi sebenarnya kesemuanya itu masih dalam satu ikatan bahasan yang saling berhubungan. Usahakan kita memiliki success story pada tiap core competency yang kita kejar. Success story bisa berupa produk, services, experience atau hasil penelitian. Sucess story membuat materi dan berbagai hal yang kita sajikan lebih bermakna dan berkarakter, serta tidak garing apalagi hampa
Tulis Sesuai dengan Target Pembaca dan Gunakan Bahasa “Manusia”. Ketika target pembaca saya adalah mahasiswa, maka saya harus menyajikan tulisan dengan bahasa mereka. Bahasa pergaulan, syair lagu anak muda dan ungkapan mereka, kadang harus saya gunakan, supaya saya bisa membuat kohesi alias rekatan dengan mereka. Menggunakan bahasa paper yang jaim, jayus dan jablai akan membuat bidikan kita lari, ketika baru satu paragraf membaca tulisan kita. Jadi, mari kita gunakan bahasa “manusia” yang baik dan benar Tapi jangan terjebak ke pergeseran karakter atau positioning, usahakan tulisan kita tetap sesuai dengan karakter dan positioning kita. Ketika karakter dan positioning saya ke arah ilmiah, saya akan menyajikan tema misalnya tentang cinta dengan tetap dalam koridor ilmiah, valid dan logis, meskipun tetap terlihat sentuhan hatinya
Bidik Keyword yang Kita Kejar di Mesin Pencari. Mesin pencari adalah kultur baru pencarian, ini konsep penting yang harus kita pegang. Saya membidik beberapa keyword alias kata kunci yang sesuai dengan core competency saya. Bagaimana caranya? Dengan banyak menulis tentang suatu keyword, sebenarnya kita sudah menciptakan “banjir” keyword di mesin pencari. Saya juga mengizinkan orang lain untuk membahas atau meletakkan tulisan saya pada situs atau blog mereka, asal tetap memberikan link ke URL kita. Itu sebenarnya membantu meningkatkan backlink ke blog kita. Saya berusaha membidik keyword: software engineering, elearning, entrepreneurship, supaya bermunculan di setiap pencarian yang dilakukan oleh orang lain. Ketika artikel kita betebaran di berbagai situs, maka sebenarnya kita sudah membuat pusing dunia nyata dengan dunia maya Ketika banyak orang menggunakan Search Engine Optimization (SEO) untuk mencari uang di Internet, saya memanfaatkan SEO dalam meningkatkan karir dan membuat lompatan dalam pekerjaan saya.
Prioritaskan Tulisan ke Tema Bidang Kita yang Sedang Booming. Ketika tema UU ITE dan Pornografi menjadi booming, maka saya mulai fokuskan tulisan ke tema bahasan UU ITE dan Pornografi di Internet. Dengan harapan bahwa imbas melesatnya pencarian di tema tersebut akan mengarah ke blog kita. Terbukti bahwa kemudian banyak TV, radio, dan surat kabar menjadikan saya nara sumber. Kenapa kok bisa begitu? Ya karena kultur pencarian produser dan wartawan juga ke Internet, jadi mereka mencari nara sumber dari Internet, dan ketika itu mereka akhirnya menemukan tulisan-tulisan saya. Perlu dicatat bahwa marketing dan branding adalah aktifitas mengembangkan persepsi pihak lain. Maka tulisan-tulisan saya adalah argumentasi nyata, yang membuat saya dipersepsikan mengerti dengan baik tentang bidang yang saya bahas tersebut.
Bangun Komunitas dan Network Lewat Berbagai Layanan Social Network. Banyak orang menertawakan saya ketika saya bermain di Friendster dan Facebook . Padahal keduanya adalah tren layanan yang digemari anak muda, pelajar dan mahasiswa kita. Ingat bahwa sebagian besar pengakses Internet di Indonesia adalah pelajar dan mahasiswa. Pemilik account Friendster dari Indonesia kabarnya menduduki peringkat tiga sedunia. Saya ingin membuat para pembaca yang saya bidik bisa menemukan saya baik disengaja atau tidak, dari mesin pencari ataupun pada setiap layanan web yang mereka akses. Saya tidak mau kehilangan mereka, karena tulisan-tulisan di blog saya sebagian saya targetkan untuk mereka. Termasuk saya tidak melarang fans berat saya yang membuatkan forum bernama Romi Satria Wahono Fans Club
Gunakan Strategi Paternalistik Positif dan Heroic Leadership. Masyarakat kita adalah masyarakat paternalistik. Itulah yang membuat perang Pangeran Diponegoro selesai tahun 1830, kenapa? padahal masih ada ribuan pasukan yang siap bertempur melawan Belanda. Alasannya hanya satu, karena Pangeran Diponegoro tertangkap Sifat masyarakat yang paternalistik sebenarnya tidak masalah kita gunakan, asal kita gunakan untuk hal yang positif. Saya ingin mempengaruhi pembaca saya dengan berbagai model influence tactic gaya paternalistik maupun heroic leadership. Salam perdjoeangan dengan ejaan kata ala DJ dan OE selalu saya dengungkan, supaya semua memahami bahwa saya sedang mengajak semua pembaca saya untuk tidak malas, lesu atau kehilangan motivasi. Mereka akan turut berdjoeang kalau saya juga berdjoeang, dan semua akan ikhlash mengurangi tidur kalau saya juga mengurangi tidur saya. Itulah paternalistik positif dan itulah heroic leadership
Perbanyak Tulisan dengan Keyword Target Karir. Saya kembangkan tulisan ke berbagai keyword pekerjaan dan karir yang saya bidik. Saya membidik keyword misalnya, juri software, juri multimedia pembelajaran, dosen software engineering, pakar software engineering, konsultan software engineering, pakar elearning, konsultan elearning, dsb. Semakin banyak saya membuat tulisan tentang tema-tema itu, semakin banyak peluang blog saya akan didatangi oleh pengunjung berdasar hasil pencarian pada mesin pencari yang mereka lakukan. Saya akhirnya diminta menjadi dosen di berbagai tempat, menjadi juri di banyak sekali kompetisi dan lomba yang diadakan berbagai institusi di Indonesia, dan mendapatkan kesempatan mengerjakan dan memimpin berbagai project di bidang yang saya geluti. Sekali lagi ingat konsep penting, para legenda tidak pernah mengejar harta, jabatan, tahta apalagi wanita (halah) Jadilah legenda yang banyak berkarya yang bermanfaat untuk masyarakat, dan tunggulah semua itu datang kepadamu
Perbanyak Tema Tentang Produk Kita. Ketika sudah memiliki produk ataupun layanan yang siap dijual, misalnya saya punya produk elearning content dan system yang siap saya tawarkan, saya perbanyak tulisan dengan tema tentang layanan tersebut. Ini bukan berarti bahwa saya harus menulis tentang produk itu sendiri, tapi bisa saja saya tulis bagaimana saya membuat produk tersebut, metodologi apa yang saya gunakan, bagaimana success story pada saat implementasi, strategi implementasi, dsb.
Buat Kerjasama dengan Majalah atau Koran. Ketika tulisan kita sudah semakin matang, saya yakin akan banyak majalah dan koran cetak yang mengajak kerjasama untuk mempublish tulisan kita lewat majalah atau koran mereka. Ada beberapa majalah yang saat ini rutin mengambil tulisan saya. Sehingga tugas saya hanya menulis di blog, dan mereka datang untuk mengambil tulisan yang sesuai dengan target pembaca dari majalah dan koran tersebut. Tawaran dari beberapa penerbit juga datang untuk membukukan tulisan-tulisan saya yang ada di blog ini. Kiat ke-10 ini saya pikir langkah awal yang penting untuk menghantarkan kita menjadi professional blogger, dimana kita bisa hidup dari tulisan-tulisan dan karya-karya kita.
Beberapa hal dari kiat-kiat diatas mungkin seperti mimpi-mimpi yang sulit kita raih. Tapi saya yakin, asal kita punya komitmen dan konsistensi dalam membuat tulisan di blog, makan mimpi tersebut akan tercapai dalam waktu yang cepat. Kesepuluh hal diatas adalah sesuatu yang saya lakukan, dan alhamdulillah saya berhasil mencapai banyak hal, yang dulu hanya berakhir di mimpi-mimpi saya.
Mari kita ingat ungkapan ulama besar bernama Hasan Al Bana, mimpi kita hari ini adalah kenyataan esok hari …

Tapi intinya, saya menguraikan bagaimana blogging alias kegiatan ngeblog dapat digunakan untuk mendukung karir dan pekerjaan, khususnya dalam aspek personal branding.
Diskusi saya buka dengan sajian tentang fenomena penting dunia IT yang sering luput kita perhatikan, diantaranya adalah:
Internet dengan WWW sebagai garda depannya, membuat dunia ini semakin datar. Pendapat ini disampaikan oleh Thomas L. Friedman dalam buku best seller-nya The World is Flat. Perlu dicatat bahwa jumlah pengguna Internet dunia menembus ke angka 1,3 miliar. Menurut InternetWorldStats.Com, Indonesia mencatatkan diri pada urutan no 14 dunia, mengalahkan spanyol dan beberapa negara maju lainnya secara jumlah pengguna Internet. Isu bahwa jumlah pengguna Internet di Indonesia adalah kecil dan tidak perlu dipikirkan adalah konspirasi tingkat tinggi untuk menjauhkan masyarakat dari kekuatan dan magic bernama Internet.
Mesin pencari adalah kultur baru pencarian pada masyarakat dunia ini. Era yellow pages, papan pengumuman, informasi di surat kabar dan bahkan nomor ajaib 108, sudah semakin tergerus oleh Internet. Pencarian di Internet melebar ke arah pencarian pekerjaan, nara sumber, pembicara, dosen, travel agent , toko, gedung perkantoran, alamat dan no telepon seseorang, dsb. Kultur inilah yang saya gunakan dalam ketika memutuskan mencoba jalur personal branding lewat blogging supaya bisa mendukung karir dan pekerjaan saya. Jalan inilah yang juga dibidik oleh Boeing dan Sun Microsystem, yang mencoba menggunakan model corporate blogging, dengan meminta Randy Baseler dan Jonathan untuk memimpin blogging culture di perusahaan mereka.
Datarnya dunia membuat perubahan bisa dilakukan oleh individu atau kelompok kecil, di manapun berada. Dunia bergeser dan terjadi perubahan trend para pelopor dan perubah (agent of change), yang bukan dari negara besar, bukan dari perusahaan besar dan juga bukan dari universitas besar. Masalah ini dibahas tuntas oleh Friedman melalui teori versi globalisasi yang mulai 1990 masuk ke versi tiga. Majalah Time, meskipun dengan redaksi yang berbeda, juga membahas isu ini lewat kontroversi Time’s Person of the Year tahun 2006, yang memilih You (Anda). Ya, anda yang melakukan knowledge sharing di Internet, konsumer dan produser user generated content. Produk dan kreatifitas di dunia maya yang membuat perubahan tidak hanya di dunia maya sendiri, bahkan di dunia nyata, sering saya sebut dengan kreatifitas maya.
Trend SDM dunia mengarah ke versatilist, yaitu spesialis yang memiliki kemampuan menjelaskan produk dan keunggulan yang dimiliki kepada orang lain dengan baik. Para spesialis yang versatilist adalah orang yang bisa menyeimbangkan kemampuan verbal dan tulis, dan juga menggabungkan keunggulan defacto dan dejure. Blogging adalah exercise yang baik dalam membentuk keunggulan tulis, dan juga titik awal menemukan keunggulan defacto bagi yang serius menjalaninya.
Fenomena diatas semakin meyakinkan kita bahwa blogging dan mengembangkan kreatifitas maya adalah media dan jalan menuju perubahan. Blogging adalah alat untuk sharing, branding, business dan marketing yang murah, efektif dan efisien.
Lewat blog-lah saya sebarkan seluruh CV dan portfolio saya. Dan lewat tulisan di bloglah, saya memainkan persepsi orang lain supaya yakin bahwa saya mampu dan pantas mengerjakan suatu pekerjaan. Saya bahkan tidak pernah melamar pekerjaan, melamar menjadi dosen pada suatu universitas, menjadi nara sumber, menjadi pengisi seminar atau bahkan memburu tender secara agresif. Intinya, saya tidak pernah dan tidak ingin secara kasar dan agresif memburu karir, termasuk pekerjaan, jabatan, harta, dan tahta. Saya cukup melakukan personal branding lewat blog dan membuat kreatifitas maya seperti IlmuKomputer.Com. Dan saya biarkan semua itu memburu saya … Wahai para pedjoeangku, inilah jalan cinta para legenda itu .. ehm ehm
Beberapa kiat yang saya lakukan selama ini dalam aktifitas ngeblog alias blogging, khususnya berhubungan dengan personal branding adalah sebagai berikut:
Sediakan Profile, Portfolio dan CV Lengkap. Informasi lengkap harus kita berikan lewat blog kita sehingga orang semakin mudah menemukan kita. Yang penting kita sajikan adalah profile lengkap, penghargaan yang kita terima, portfolio dan pengalaman kerja kita, sertifikasi yang kita miliki, daftar publikasi paper, dan cara mengkontak kita (alamat, telepon, email, ym, dsb). Yakinlah bahwa asal positioning yang kita bentuk positif, dan semua tulisan kita sajikan dengan ikhlash untuk kebaikan masyarakat, Insya Allah tidak akan ada yang menyalahgunakan data kita untuk melakukan kejahatan.
Fokuskan Tema Tulisan ke Core Competency yang Kita Miliki. Putuskan dan pilih bidang garapan alias core competency yang kita inginkan dalam karir. Fokuskan tema tulisan hanya di sekitar core competency kita tersebut. Kalau yang kita bidik ada banyak, buat dalam beberapa kategori yang mempermudah pembaca memahami positioning kita. Positioning kita biasanya kita tulis dan subtitle pada blog. Contohnya, saya menggunakan kalimat: Learning, Researching, Entrepreneuring, Teaching, Motivating and Inspiring People. Sedangkan fokus core competency yang saya kejar adalah bidang: Software Engineering, eLearning, Entrepreneurship, Kemahasiswaan, Research Methodology, Open Movement dan Knowledge Management. Meskipun kelihatan banyak, tapi sebenarnya kesemuanya itu masih dalam satu ikatan bahasan yang saling berhubungan. Usahakan kita memiliki success story pada tiap core competency yang kita kejar. Success story bisa berupa produk, services, experience atau hasil penelitian. Sucess story membuat materi dan berbagai hal yang kita sajikan lebih bermakna dan berkarakter, serta tidak garing apalagi hampa
Tulis Sesuai dengan Target Pembaca dan Gunakan Bahasa “Manusia”. Ketika target pembaca saya adalah mahasiswa, maka saya harus menyajikan tulisan dengan bahasa mereka. Bahasa pergaulan, syair lagu anak muda dan ungkapan mereka, kadang harus saya gunakan, supaya saya bisa membuat kohesi alias rekatan dengan mereka. Menggunakan bahasa paper yang jaim, jayus dan jablai akan membuat bidikan kita lari, ketika baru satu paragraf membaca tulisan kita. Jadi, mari kita gunakan bahasa “manusia” yang baik dan benar Tapi jangan terjebak ke pergeseran karakter atau positioning, usahakan tulisan kita tetap sesuai dengan karakter dan positioning kita. Ketika karakter dan positioning saya ke arah ilmiah, saya akan menyajikan tema misalnya tentang cinta dengan tetap dalam koridor ilmiah, valid dan logis, meskipun tetap terlihat sentuhan hatinya
Bidik Keyword yang Kita Kejar di Mesin Pencari. Mesin pencari adalah kultur baru pencarian, ini konsep penting yang harus kita pegang. Saya membidik beberapa keyword alias kata kunci yang sesuai dengan core competency saya. Bagaimana caranya? Dengan banyak menulis tentang suatu keyword, sebenarnya kita sudah menciptakan “banjir” keyword di mesin pencari. Saya juga mengizinkan orang lain untuk membahas atau meletakkan tulisan saya pada situs atau blog mereka, asal tetap memberikan link ke URL kita. Itu sebenarnya membantu meningkatkan backlink ke blog kita. Saya berusaha membidik keyword: software engineering, elearning, entrepreneurship, supaya bermunculan di setiap pencarian yang dilakukan oleh orang lain. Ketika artikel kita betebaran di berbagai situs, maka sebenarnya kita sudah membuat pusing dunia nyata dengan dunia maya Ketika banyak orang menggunakan Search Engine Optimization (SEO) untuk mencari uang di Internet, saya memanfaatkan SEO dalam meningkatkan karir dan membuat lompatan dalam pekerjaan saya.
Prioritaskan Tulisan ke Tema Bidang Kita yang Sedang Booming. Ketika tema UU ITE dan Pornografi menjadi booming, maka saya mulai fokuskan tulisan ke tema bahasan UU ITE dan Pornografi di Internet. Dengan harapan bahwa imbas melesatnya pencarian di tema tersebut akan mengarah ke blog kita. Terbukti bahwa kemudian banyak TV, radio, dan surat kabar menjadikan saya nara sumber. Kenapa kok bisa begitu? Ya karena kultur pencarian produser dan wartawan juga ke Internet, jadi mereka mencari nara sumber dari Internet, dan ketika itu mereka akhirnya menemukan tulisan-tulisan saya. Perlu dicatat bahwa marketing dan branding adalah aktifitas mengembangkan persepsi pihak lain. Maka tulisan-tulisan saya adalah argumentasi nyata, yang membuat saya dipersepsikan mengerti dengan baik tentang bidang yang saya bahas tersebut.
Bangun Komunitas dan Network Lewat Berbagai Layanan Social Network. Banyak orang menertawakan saya ketika saya bermain di Friendster dan Facebook . Padahal keduanya adalah tren layanan yang digemari anak muda, pelajar dan mahasiswa kita. Ingat bahwa sebagian besar pengakses Internet di Indonesia adalah pelajar dan mahasiswa. Pemilik account Friendster dari Indonesia kabarnya menduduki peringkat tiga sedunia. Saya ingin membuat para pembaca yang saya bidik bisa menemukan saya baik disengaja atau tidak, dari mesin pencari ataupun pada setiap layanan web yang mereka akses. Saya tidak mau kehilangan mereka, karena tulisan-tulisan di blog saya sebagian saya targetkan untuk mereka. Termasuk saya tidak melarang fans berat saya yang membuatkan forum bernama Romi Satria Wahono Fans Club
Gunakan Strategi Paternalistik Positif dan Heroic Leadership. Masyarakat kita adalah masyarakat paternalistik. Itulah yang membuat perang Pangeran Diponegoro selesai tahun 1830, kenapa? padahal masih ada ribuan pasukan yang siap bertempur melawan Belanda. Alasannya hanya satu, karena Pangeran Diponegoro tertangkap Sifat masyarakat yang paternalistik sebenarnya tidak masalah kita gunakan, asal kita gunakan untuk hal yang positif. Saya ingin mempengaruhi pembaca saya dengan berbagai model influence tactic gaya paternalistik maupun heroic leadership. Salam perdjoeangan dengan ejaan kata ala DJ dan OE selalu saya dengungkan, supaya semua memahami bahwa saya sedang mengajak semua pembaca saya untuk tidak malas, lesu atau kehilangan motivasi. Mereka akan turut berdjoeang kalau saya juga berdjoeang, dan semua akan ikhlash mengurangi tidur kalau saya juga mengurangi tidur saya. Itulah paternalistik positif dan itulah heroic leadership
Perbanyak Tulisan dengan Keyword Target Karir. Saya kembangkan tulisan ke berbagai keyword pekerjaan dan karir yang saya bidik. Saya membidik keyword misalnya, juri software, juri multimedia pembelajaran, dosen software engineering, pakar software engineering, konsultan software engineering, pakar elearning, konsultan elearning, dsb. Semakin banyak saya membuat tulisan tentang tema-tema itu, semakin banyak peluang blog saya akan didatangi oleh pengunjung berdasar hasil pencarian pada mesin pencari yang mereka lakukan. Saya akhirnya diminta menjadi dosen di berbagai tempat, menjadi juri di banyak sekali kompetisi dan lomba yang diadakan berbagai institusi di Indonesia, dan mendapatkan kesempatan mengerjakan dan memimpin berbagai project di bidang yang saya geluti. Sekali lagi ingat konsep penting, para legenda tidak pernah mengejar harta, jabatan, tahta apalagi wanita (halah) Jadilah legenda yang banyak berkarya yang bermanfaat untuk masyarakat, dan tunggulah semua itu datang kepadamu
Perbanyak Tema Tentang Produk Kita. Ketika sudah memiliki produk ataupun layanan yang siap dijual, misalnya saya punya produk elearning content dan system yang siap saya tawarkan, saya perbanyak tulisan dengan tema tentang layanan tersebut. Ini bukan berarti bahwa saya harus menulis tentang produk itu sendiri, tapi bisa saja saya tulis bagaimana saya membuat produk tersebut, metodologi apa yang saya gunakan, bagaimana success story pada saat implementasi, strategi implementasi, dsb.
Buat Kerjasama dengan Majalah atau Koran. Ketika tulisan kita sudah semakin matang, saya yakin akan banyak majalah dan koran cetak yang mengajak kerjasama untuk mempublish tulisan kita lewat majalah atau koran mereka. Ada beberapa majalah yang saat ini rutin mengambil tulisan saya. Sehingga tugas saya hanya menulis di blog, dan mereka datang untuk mengambil tulisan yang sesuai dengan target pembaca dari majalah dan koran tersebut. Tawaran dari beberapa penerbit juga datang untuk membukukan tulisan-tulisan saya yang ada di blog ini. Kiat ke-10 ini saya pikir langkah awal yang penting untuk menghantarkan kita menjadi professional blogger, dimana kita bisa hidup dari tulisan-tulisan dan karya-karya kita.
Beberapa hal dari kiat-kiat diatas mungkin seperti mimpi-mimpi yang sulit kita raih. Tapi saya yakin, asal kita punya komitmen dan konsistensi dalam membuat tulisan di blog, makan mimpi tersebut akan tercapai dalam waktu yang cepat. Kesepuluh hal diatas adalah sesuatu yang saya lakukan, dan alhamdulillah saya berhasil mencapai banyak hal, yang dulu hanya berakhir di mimpi-mimpi saya.
Mari kita ingat ungkapan ulama besar bernama Hasan Al Bana, mimpi kita hari ini adalah kenyataan esok hari …

Gamat Tuntaskan Jantung Koroner

Karena rasa nyeri dan panas di dada tak juga sirna, Mulyanto memanggil salah seorang rekan yang tinggal di dekat rumahnya. Oleh rekannya, Mulyanto dipijat-pijat. Ah ini sih masuk angin, katanya. Usai dipijat, rasa panas di dada tak juga minggat. Derita itu menjalar ke leher. Rasanya seperti tercekik, kenang Mulyanto.
Khawatir memburuk, akhirnya Mulyanto diantar sang istri ke Puskesmas terdekat. Setelah diperiksa, dokter jaga menyarankan Mulyanto untuk diperiksa dengan ekokardiogram (EKG) di Rumahsakit Hasan Sadikin, Bandung. Meski menjelang pagi, ayah 2 anak itu tak hirau. Ia langsung diboyong ke rumahsakit oleh sang istri tercinta.
Setibanya di ruang gawat darurat, Mulyanto langsung mendapat perawatan dokter. Dalam hitungan menit, ekokardiogram sudah terpasang di sekujur tubuh. Mulyanto juga diperiksa darah dan urine. Setelah rangkaian tes usai, hasil diagnosis dokter spesialis jantung menyimpulkan bahwa Mulyanto terkena serangan jantung koroner.
Menurut dokter, serangan jantung yang diderita Mulyanto disebabkan penyumbatan pembuluh darah jantung. Selain itu, tekanan darah tinggi yang mencapai 140/110 mmHg turut memicu serangan. Sebelumnya saya mengidap tekanan darah rendah, katanya. Kadar trigliserida 200 mg/dl, kian memperparah kondisi Mulyanto. Kondisi normal, 150 mg/dl. Akibatnya, ia harus menginap di rumahsakit selama 7 hari.
Pertama kaliPetaka itu terjadi pada medio 2005 silam. Itu adalah kali pertama bagi Mulyanto. Saya heran, kok bisa terkena jantung koroner, kata pria 41 tahun itu. Padahal, ia sangat gemar berolahraga. Bahkan, 16 tahun silam, ia tercatat sebagai atlet bolabasket di kampusnya. Dua tahun lalu, saya berhenti berolahraga karena sibuk bekerja, katanya. Dokter menduga, rutinitas berolahraga yang tiba-tiba berhenti, turut memicu serangan jantung koroner.
Karena kondisi Mulyanto mulai membaik, ia pun diizinkan pulang. Oleh dokter, ia diberi obat penurun tekanan darah dan aneka vitamin. Obat-obatan berupa kapsul itu dikonsumsi 3 kali sehari.
Meski panas dan nyeri di dada mulai menghilang, gejala serangan jantung koroner belum juga sirna. Jika berbicara terlalu banyak, napas saya tersengal-sengal, katanya. Sebulan kemudian, saat obat dokter habis, Mulyanto ditawari suplemen yang mengandung omega 3 dari salah seorang rekan. Pada waktu bersamaan, sang istri pun menawarkan jeli teripang. Namun, ketika itu bukan untuk mengobati Mulyanto, tetapi untuk mengobati ambeien dan maag akut yang diderita istri.
Setelah melihat kondisi ambeien dan maag akut sang istri mulai membaik, Mulyanto pun tertarik untuk mencobanya. Karena berhasrat sembuh, Mulyanto menyantap kedua suplemen itu bersamaan. Sebulan kemudian, omega 3 yang diberikan rekannya itu tandas. Saat akan membeli ulang, suplemen itu menghilang di pasaran. Akhirnya, Mulyanto pun hanya mengkonsumsi jeli teripang. Jeli gamat-sebutan teripang di Malaysia-itu rutin dikonsumsi 2 kali sehari masing-masing 1 sendok makan.
Dua bulan mengkonsumsi jeli teripang, kondisi tubuh Mulyanto mulai membaik. Napas yang tadinya tersengal-sengal kini terasa plong. Saya pun mulai aktif kembali berolahraga, katanya. Setiap pagi, ia rutin berjalan kaki hingga ratusan meter. Yang penting keluar keringat, katanya. Tekanan darah pun kembali normal, 110/90 mmHg.
Karena kondisi tubuh kembali pulih, Mulyanto pun mengurangi takaran konsumsi jeli teripang. Setiap hari, ia hanya mengkonsumsi 1 sendok makan. Itu untuk berjaga-jaga, kata pegawai keuangan di sebuah perusahaan swasta itu.
Rokok
Menurut Prof Dr dr Budhi Setianto, SpJP(K), dari Rumah Sakit Jantung Harapan Kita, penyakit jantung koroner berhubungan dengan pembuluh darah koroner yang mengalirkan darah ke otot-otot jantung. Orang berusia 10-20 tahun, mulai timbul guratan-guratan lemak pada pembuluh. Semakin tua, tumpukan lemak bertambah, kata guru besar Kardiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia itu. Apalagi jika pada rentang usia itu disertai tekanan darah tinggi, kolesterol tinggi, diabetes, dan merokok. Dampaknya, lapisan dalam pembuluh darah rusak. Saya memang suka merokok, kata Mulyanto.
Gejala yang dialami Mulyanto seperti nyeri dada dan sesak napas karena kerja jantung memompa darah ke otak terganggu. Akibatnya detak jantung terlalu lemah atau terlalu cepat. Jika terlalu lemah, jantung gagal memompa darah ke otak sehingga otak kekurangan oksigen dan akhirnya pusing. Pada bagian tubuh lain, kekurangan oksigen dalam darah menyebabkan bagian tubuh itu sakit.
Detak jantung terlalu cepat lantaran sistem pada pusat denyut terganggu sehingga tidak efektif memompa. Pusat denyut jantung diibaratkan generator yang memiliki sistem listrik sendiri. Gangguan sistem listrik menyebabkan detak jantung menjadi cepat. Beberapa hal penyebab gangguan itu adalah pembuluh darah yang kacau, ketuaan, atau pelebaran jantung akibat katup menyempit oleh infeksi bakteri Streptococcus. Penyakitnya biasa dinamakan penyakit jantung rematik.
Kaya DHA
Keampuhan teripang mengatasi penyakit jantung diduga lantaran kandungan asam docosahexanat (DHA) pada teripang. Asupan DHA-asam lemak utama pada sperma, otak, dan retina mata-tinggi dapat menurunkan trigliserida darah penyebab penyakit jantung. Itu telah dibuktikan Prof Zaiton Hassan, peneliti dari Departemen Ilmu Pangan, Universitas Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. Bersama M. A Kaswandi, dari Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia, ia meneliti kandungan asam lemak teripang Stichopus chloronotus. Hasilnya: kandungan DHA teripang relatif tinggi, yaitu 3,69%.
Yang juga meneliti teripang adalah Prof Ridzwan Hashim, periset dari Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia. Pada 1995, ia meneliti keampuhan teripang Holothuria atra, H. scabra, dan Bohadshia argus, mematikan bakteri Streptococcus faecalis, penyebab pembengkakan lapisan dalam jantung, dan S. Viridans, perusak katup jantung. Ketiga anggota famili Holothuriidae itu juga terdapat di Indonesia. Mulyanto mengakui hingga saat ini belum memeriksakan kembali kondisi jantungnya ke rumahsakit. Toh selama ini gejala serangan jantung koroner tak lagi kambuh, kata pria kelahiran Maret 1965 itu. Menurut Prof Dr dr Budhi Setianto, SpJP(K), dari Rumah Sakit Jantung Harapan Kita, penyakit jantung koroner berhubungan dengan pembuluh darah koroner yang mengalirkan darah ke otot-otot jantung. Orang berusia 10-20 tahun, mulai timbul guratan-guratan lemak pada pembuluh. Semakin tua, tumpukan lemak bertambah, kata guru besar Kardiologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia itu. Apalagi jika pada rentang usia itu disertai tekanan darah tinggi, kolesterol tinggi, diabetes, dan merokok. Dampaknya, lapisan dalam pembuluh darah rusak. Saya memang suka merokok, kata Mulyanto.
Gejala yang dialami Mulyanto seperti nyeri dada dan sesak napas karena kerja jantung memompa darah ke otak terganggu. Akibatnya detak jantung terlalu lemah atau terlalu cepat. Jika terlalu lemah, jantung gagal memompa darah ke otak sehingga otak kekurangan oksigen dan akhirnya pusing. Pada bagian tubuh lain, kekurangan oksigen dalam darah menyebabkan bagian tubuh itu sakit.
Detak jantung terlalu cepat lantaran sistem pada pusat denyut terganggu sehingga tidak efektif memompa. Pusat denyut jantung diibaratkan generator yang memiliki sistem listrik sendiri. Gangguan sistem listrik menyebabkan detak jantung menjadi cepat. Beberapa hal penyebab gangguan itu adalah pembuluh darah yang kacau, ketuaan, atau pelebaran jantung akibat katup menyempit oleh infeksi bakteri Streptococcus. Penyakitnya biasa dinamakan penyakit jantung rematik.
Kaya DHA
Keampuhan teripang mengatasi penyakit jantung diduga lantaran kandungan asam docosahexanat (DHA) pada teripang. Asupan DHA-asam lemak utama pada sperma, otak, dan retina mata-tinggi dapat menurunkan trigliserida darah penyebab penyakit jantung. Itu telah dibuktikan Prof Zaiton Hassan, peneliti dari Departemen Ilmu Pangan, Universitas Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. Bersama M. A Kaswandi, dari Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia, ia meneliti kandungan asam lemak teripang Stichopus chloronotus. Hasilnya: kandungan DHA teripang relatif tinggi, yaitu 3,69%.
Yang juga meneliti teripang adalah Prof Ridzwan Hashim, periset dari Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia. Pada 1995, ia meneliti keampuhan teripang Holothuria atra, H. scabra, dan Bohadshia argus, mematikan bakteri Streptococcus faecalis, penyebab pembengkakan lapisan dalam jantung, dan S. Viridans, perusak katup jantung. Ketiga anggota famili Holothuriidae itu juga terdapat di Indonesia. Karena rasa nyeri dan panas di dada tak juga sirna, Mulyanto memanggil salah seorang rekan yang tinggal di dekat rumahnya. Oleh rekannya, Mulyanto dipijat-pijat. Ah ini sih masuk angin, katanya. Usai dipijat, rasa panas di dada tak juga minggat. Derita itu menjalar ke leher. Rasanya seperti tercekik, kenang Mulyanto.
Khawatir memburuk, akhirnya Mulyanto diantar sang istri ke Puskesmas terdekat. Setelah diperiksa, dokter jaga menyarankan Mulyanto untuk diperiksa dengan ekokardiogram (EKG) di Rumahsakit Hasan Sadikin, Bandung. Meski menjelang pagi, ayah 2 anak itu tak hirau. Ia langsung diboyong ke rumahsakit oleh sang istri tercinta.
Setibanya di ruang gawat darurat, Mulyanto langsung mendapat perawatan dokter. Dalam hitungan menit, ekokardiogram sudah terpasang di sekujur tubuh. Mulyanto juga diperiksa darah dan urine. Setelah rangkaian tes usai, hasil diagnosis dokter spesialis jantung menyimpulkan bahwa Mulyanto terkena serangan jantung koroner.
Menurut dokter, serangan jantung yang diderita Mulyanto disebabkan penyumbatan pembuluh darah jantung. Selain itu, tekanan darah tinggi yang mencapai 140/110 mmHg turut memicu serangan. Sebelumnya saya mengidap tekanan darah rendah, katanya. Kadar trigliserida 200 mg/dl, kian memperparah kondisi Mulyanto. Kondisi normal, 150 mg/dl. Akibatnya, ia harus menginap di rumahsakit selama 7 hari.
Pertama kaliPetaka itu terjadi pada medio 2005 silam. Itu adalah kali pertama bagi Mulyanto. Saya heran, kok bisa terkena jantung koroner, kata pria 41 tahun itu. Padahal, ia sangat gemar berolahraga. Bahkan, 16 tahun silam, ia tercatat sebagai atlet bolabasket di kampusnya. Dua tahun lalu, saya berhenti berolahraga karena sibuk bekerja, katanya. Dokter menduga, rutinitas berolahraga yang tiba-tiba berhenti, turut memicu serangan jantung koroner.
Karena kondisi Mulyanto mulai membaik, ia pun diizinkan pulang. Oleh dokter, ia diberi obat penurun tekanan darah dan aneka vitamin. Obat-obatan berupa kapsul itu dikonsumsi 3 kali sehari.
Meski panas dan nyeri di dada mulai menghilang, gejala serangan jantung koroner belum juga sirna. Jika berbicara terlalu banyak, napas saya tersengal-sengal, katanya. Sebulan kemudian, saat obat dokter habis, Mulyanto ditawari suplemen yang mengandung omega 3 dari salah seorang rekan. Pada waktu bersamaan, sang istri pun menawarkan jeli teripang. Berlalunya Radang Paru-paru sang Saudagar

Pada malam yang kian menua, Suharmen Sultan Mudo justru terjaga. Dada terasa nyeri setiap kali ia batuk. Ia juga demam. Meski begitu keesokan harinya ia tetap bekerja menempuh perjalanan minimal 500 km. Dari Payakumbuh ke Padang atau Riau sering ditempuhnya untuk memasok beragam kain.
Di perjalanan panjang itu Suharmen Sultan Mudo hampir tak pernah berhenti merokok. Sesekali minuman berenergi dikonsumsi. Namun, akhirnya pada Oktober 2003 pria 46 tahun itu ambruk. Ia menggigil, tubuh lemas, batuk berkepanjangan, dan nafsu makan hilang. Untuk mengatasi gangguan kesehatan itu ia hanya mengkonsumsi obat batuk yang banyak beredar di pasaran.
Sayang, sebulan berselang, kondisinya kian memburuk. Ia batuk darah. Keadaan itu mendorongnya menemui dokter spesialis paru-paru di Padang, Sumatera Barat. Ayah 4 anak itu menjalani beberapa pemeriksaan fisik. Ahli medis juga memasukkan jarum suntik pada sisi paru yang sakit. Tujuannya untuk mengetahui isi cairan.
Pneumonia
Hasil pemeriksaan, jumlah leukosit --sel darah putih-- melebihi batas normal, 10.000/ul. Paru-paru bernanah dan dahak mengandung mikroorganisme. Suharmen divonis mengidap pneumonia. Saat itu juga pria kelahiran 46 tahun lalu itu langsung menjalani operasi penanaman selang untuk penyedotan cairan dalam paru-parunya. "Isinya sampai 1 botol air mineral besar (1.500 ml, red)," kata Suharmen. Pengeluaran cairan berbau menyengat itu makan waktu 4 jam.
Celakanya Suharmen juga pengidap diabetes mellitus berkadar gula 585 mg/dl. Oleh karena itu ia menjalani rawat inap 2 minggu untuk penyembuhan diabetes. Menurut dokter pembusukan paru-paru juga diakibatkan tingginya kadar gula darah. Gula darah menjadi makanan bakteri penginfeksi radang paru-paru untuk berkembang biak, Untuk mengantisipasi 2 penyakit itu, 7 obat harus dikonsumsinya 3 kali sehari.
Dengan gula darah di atas 300 mg/dl, Suharmen diizinkan pulang, tapi selang tetap bertengger di paru-paru. Di ujung selang, botol infus menampung nanah. Ke mana pun ia pergi, botol infus ditaruh dalam saku celana. Sebab, cairan nanah tetap mengalir dari paru-paru. Setiap malam 50-100 cc nanah keluar dari organ pernapasan itu. Satu tahun berselang, bobot tubuh tinggal 37 kg dari sebelumnya 70kg. Suharmen kembali memeriksakan diri ke dokter spesialis paru-paru. Dokter kaget atas hasil tes laboratorium. Data menunjukkan 50% paru-paru Suharmen membusuk. Solusi yang ditawarkan dokter, amputasi paru-paru. Tujuannya agar kuman tidak menjalar. Paru-paru itu sedianya akan diganti plastik. Lantaran terimpit biaya, operasi urung dilakukan.
Konsumsi Gamat
Kerabat dekat juga menolak operasi amputasi lantaran percuma. Sebab, "Paru-paru utuh saja, pasti terengah-engah ketika berjalan menanjak. Apalagi hanya separuh," kata Suharmen mengulang perkataan Amril Anwar, kerabatnya itu. Amril menyarankan untuk mengkonsumsi ekstrak teripang 3 kali 2 sendok sehari untuk mengembalikan sel-sel paru-paru. Dua bulan rutin men gkonsumsi gamat --sebutan teripang di Malaysia-- bau menyengat dari tubuh Suharmen hilang. Bobot tubuh bertambah 10 kg menjadi 47 kg. Batuk-batuk dan demam yang kerap menyertai tidurnya pun sirna.
Setahun kemudian pada Oktober 2005 kondisi tubuhnya kian membaik. Itu sebabnya ia kembali memeriksakan keadaan paru-paru. Tujuh puluh persen paru-paru telah kembali membentuk daging. Sedangkan kadar gula darah normal,160 mg/dl. Selang yang menggantung di kantongnya pun dilepaskan melalui operasi di Rumah Sakit Achmad Muchtar, Bukittinggi, Sumatera Barat.
Menurut Prof. Dr. Faisal Yunus PhD., ahli pulmunologi RS Persahabatan Jakarta, pneumonia merupakan radang paru-paru yang disebabkan mikroorganisme (bakteri, virus, cendawan, dan parasit). Bakteri yang umum adalah Streptococcus pneumoniae Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella sp, dan pseudomonas sp.
Proses peradangan menyebabkan jaringan paru berupa aveoli kantong udara dipenuhi cairan atau nanah. Akibatnya kemampuan paru sebagai tempat pertukaran oksigen terganggu. Kekurangan oksigen dalam sel-sel tubuh mengganggu proses metabolisme tubuh.
Faktor-faktor risiko terkena pneumonia, antara lain, infeksi saluran pernapasan atau (ISPA), usia lanjut, alkoholisme, rokok, kekurangan nutrisi, dan penyakit kronis menahun. Diduga, penyakit Suharmen berasal dari konsumsi minuman energi dan merokok tanpa henti.
Regenerasi Sel
Bagaimana teripang membantu proses penyembuhan itu? Di Universitas Kebangsaan Malaysia, Prof. Ridzwan Hashim menemukan bukti sahih, teripang Holothuria atra, H. scabra, dan Bohadshia argus berefek antibakteri. Bakteri Streptococcus faecalis penyebab pembengkakan lapisan dalam jantung, S. varidasns perusak katup jantung, S. pneumoniae penyebab radang paru-paru dan sinusitis akut, Staphyloccus aureus penyebab meningitis, dan Proteus mirabilis penginfeksi luka, ampuh dibasmi teripang.
Hal itu sejalan dengan penelitian Nagarajappa dari Gene Lab, National Institute of Oceanography, Paula, Goa, India. Hasil pengujiannya terhadap larutan teripang menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Klebsiella pneumonia. Zat yang berpengaruh: tripsin dari hidrolisat gamat.
Sedangkan Subhuti Dharmananda dari Institut Pengobatan Tradisional, Portland, Amerika serikat, mengungkap zat teripang paling berpengaruh dalam penyembuhan penyakit paru-paru adalah asam lemak metiltetradekanoik penghambat kinerja enzim lipoksigenase. Enzim berupa 5-LOX inhibitor telah diaplikasikan berbagai penyembuhan penyakit pernapasan.
"Kemampuan regenerasi sel teripang cepat, makanya bisa mengobati berbagai penyakit," kata dr. Pieter Pattinama, mantan direktur RS PGI Cikini, Jakarta. Can Data Breaches Be Expected From Bankrupt Mortgage Lenders

The stock market is in a tumult. Actually, it has been for about a year, ever since the subprime fiasco (anyone take a look at Moody's performance over the past year?) Now that that particular issue has been beaten to death, other mortgage related issues are cropping up. Most of the stuff covered in the media is financial in nature, but some of those mortgage related issues do concern information security.
t's no secret that there are plenty of companies in the US that discard sensitive documents by dumping them unceremoniously: leave it by the curb, drive it to a dumpster, heave it over the walls of abandoned property, and other assorted mind boggling insecure practices. In fact, MSNBC has an article on this issue, and names numerous bankrupt mortgage companies whose borrowers' records were found in dumpsters and recycling centers. The information on those documents include credit card numbers and SSNs, as well as addresses, names, and other information needed to secure a mortgage.
Since the companies have filed for bankruptcy and are no more, the potential victims involved have no legal recourse, and are left to fend for themselves. In a way, it makes sense that companies that have filed for bankruptcy are behaving this way. (Not that I'm saying this is proper procedure.) For starters, if a company does wrong, one goes after the company; however, the company has filed for bankruptcy, it is no more, so there's no one to "go after." In light of the company status, this means that the actual person remaining behind to dispose of things, be they desks or credit applications, can opt to do whatever he feels like. He could shred the applications. He could dump them nearby. He could walk away and let the building's owner take care of them. What does he care? It's not as if he's gonna get fired.
Also, proper disposal requires either time, money, or both. A bankrupt company doesn't have money. It may have time, assuming people are going to stick around, but chances are their shredder has been seized by creditors. People are not going to stick around to shred things by hand, literally.
Aren't there any laws regulating this? Apparently, such issues are covered by FACTA, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, and although its guidelines require that "businesses to dispose of sensitive financial documents in a way that protects against 'unauthorized access to or use of the information'" [msnbc.com], it stops short of requiring the physical destruction of data. I'm not a lawyer, but perhaps there's enough leeway in the language for one to go around dropping sensitive documents in dumpsters?
Like I mentioned before, inappropriate disposal of sensitive documents has been going on forever; I'm pretty sure this has been a problem since the very first mortgage was issued. My personal belief is that most companies would act responsibly and try to properly dispose of such information. But, this may prove to be a point of concern as well because of widespread misconceptions of what it means to protect data against unauthorized access.

The economics behind it make sense as well. A used computer will retail anywhere from $100 to $500. The information in it, if not wiped correctly, will average many times more even if you factor in the purchase of data recovery software. Criminals have different ways of capitalizing on personal data, ranging from selling the information outright to engaging in something with better returns.
